Kids and safety

What we know about your child, in plain words. The short version: a first name and a number of cards.

No child ever gets an account

There is no child login on this site and no way to make one. Everything a family does here is done by a signed-in parent or guardian, or by school staff. A child never types anything into Pokémon-athon.

What we never collect

Not “we choose not to” — there is no field for these anywhere in the system, so there is nowhere to put them even by mistake.

What we do hold

A first name, or a nickname

Capped at 40 characters. "Sam", "Bee", "the twins" — whatever the family wants to type. It exists so a child gets credit for the cards they brought in, and for nothing else.

Optionally a grade and homeroom

So a school can run a class-versus-class total if it wants to. Both are optional and plenty of schools leave them blank.

How many cards they brought, and when

The count is the fundraiser. It is attached to the first name so the credit lands in the right place.

None of it is public

A school’s public page shows dollars and card counts. That is the entire list. No student name appears on it, no student count appears on it, and there is no page anywhere on this site — signed in or not — where a stranger can see a child’s first name.

Inside the school dashboard, first names are visible to that school’s own staff and to the child’s own guardian. Nobody else, including other families at the same school.

Who decides

A guardian adding their own child has to tick a consent box before the form will submit. A school can add a student without that box, because a school already has a relationship with the family that we do not — but the same rules apply to what can be stored either way.

Taking it back

A guardian can delete their child from their own account at any time, with no reason required and no email to write. If you would rather we did it, ask us and we will. Deleting a child does not take money back from the school.

Cards are not toys we send back

Worth being blunt about: donated cards are sold on, and we cannot return them. Please go through the pile with your child and hold back anything they actually care about before the bag leaves the house. A donated card is gone, and a nine-year-old who changes their mind on Thursday is the one thing this fundraiser cannot fix.
