What this is
Pokémon-athon buys donated trading cards from schools. Students and families donate Pokémon cards at their school, the school ships them to us, and we pay the school a fixed amount per verified card up to a cap. The website is how a school records and tracks that. By using it you agree to these terms.
Accounts
You must be 18 or older to create an account. Keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account. Organizer accounts are attached to a specific school by us, after a manual review — you cannot grant yourself access to a school’s data.
Children
Only a parent or guardian may add a child to the platform, and only with a first name or nickname. By adding a child you confirm you are their parent or guardian. Do not enter a child’s full name or any other identifying detail anywhere in the product, including free-text notes. Attributing donations to a child is entirely optional — cards count for the school either way.
What we pay, and when
We pay the rate shown in the school’s dashboard — currently 10¢ — for each card we receive and verify, up to the cap shown there, currently $10,000 per school. Payment is for cards we have physically received and counted. Nothing is owed on cards that have been logged but not yet arrived.
Our count is the one that pays.A school’s logged number is an estimate and is displayed as such. If our verified count differs we will tell the school which shipment and by how much. Persistently and materially over-reporting counts is grounds for removal, and we reserve the right to withhold payment on a shipment we have good reason to believe was misrepresented.
Donated cards become ours on receipt. We sort and resell them; that is how the rate is funded. Donations are not refundable or returnable once shipped, and we cannot pick individual cards back out of a bulk lot.
What schools are responsible for
Making sure donations are genuinely given — a child handing over a sibling’s collection without permission is the sort of thing a school is better placed to catch than we are. Recording counts honestly. Complying with district rules on accepting donations and receiving funds. Packing boxes so the cards survive the post.
Acceptable use
Do not use the platform to impersonate a school you have no connection to, to collect information about children beyond what the forms ask for, to harass anyone, to misrepresent what donations are for, or to attack the service or work around its access controls. We can suspend a school or an account for any of these.
Trademarks
Pokémon-athon is an independent tool with no affiliation to, endorsement by, or sponsorship from Nintendo, Creatures Inc., Game Freak, or The Pokémon Company. Pokémon and all related marks belong to their respective owners. Nothing here is an official Pokémon product or programme, and schools should not describe their card drive as one.
Availability and liability
The service is provided as-is. We work to keep it up, but we do not guarantee it will be available or error-free, and to the extent the law allows we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from its use. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.
Ending it
You can stop using the platform and ask us to delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend accounts that breach these terms. If we close a school’s account we will settle anything owed for cards already verified, and give them their data first.
Changes
We will update this page and the date at the top when terms change, and flag anything significant rather than sliding it in.
